To Do List: (1) arrange brain insurance (2) ensure the mop goes where you want when you “kick the bucket” – legally protecting yourself and your loved ones, with Miriam Spero (Phillips Lewis Smith—Solicitors)
How can you prepare for the possibility of losing mental capacity? What happens to your estate when you die? I will give you an understanding of ways you can protect yourself by making Lasting Powers of Attorney (LPAs) or Advance Directives and how a will can ensure your estate goes where you want. I will explain what happens if you don’t have an LPA or Will. You can then make a positive decision to make or not make one. My aim is to take the fear out of making a legal document and (quite shockingly) have some fun whilst doing so.
Miriam Spero is head of private client at Phillips Lewis Smith. She is a member of Solicitors for the Elderly and the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners. She holds a STEP Certificate In Advising Vulnerable Clients. She prides herself on translating legalese into English and having a sense of humour. She understands this stuff is scary!
