SWESRS Social & Community Group – with East London & Essex Liberal Synagogue (ELELS) – The Loughton Boys

This on-line event, commemorating Holocaust Memorial Day on 27 January, will focus on the Loughton Boys who resided at Holmehurst (Manor Road) on the Loughton/Buckhurst Hill border, all survivors from the Holocaust. Their residency extended from 1945 to 1947, following an initial period at Windemere in the Lake District.
Tracy Moses on the story of her father, Harry Spiro, through the War and afterwards at Holmehurst
Supported by:
- Chris Pond, a local historian, on the historical significance of Holmehurst prior to the arrival of the Loughton Boys
- Cath Hammond, Education Officer, Epping Forest District Museum, on the recent exhibition about the Loughton Boys and its legacy
- Joan Noble on the Memory Quilt which she helped to design and to which many of the families of the Windemere survivors contributed
