Member News

Thank you to the many who attended our Zoom on March 24th and bearing witness to the stories of refugees whose lives are in tatters following their abrupt and unexpected exodus from Ukraine.

Now is the time for our action.

It was uplifting to hear Rabbi Misha Kapustin’s stories of funding accommodation and food for individuals that identify themselves as members of the Jewish community.  If you were unable to join us we did record the session and it can be found here.

We at SWESRS are proud to partner with Rabbi Misha and with the Federation of Slovak Jewish communities to fund their work, through the European Union of Progressive Judaism.

Please do take the time to donate to help support Rabbi Misha in this sacred work.

When donating to the WUPJ or the EUPJ here  please note “Slovakia Refugees” or “Rabbi Misha - Slovakia” in the designation, so the funds get to the right place.  If you would like to donate to SWESRS directly by calling the office, we will forward your donation along to Rabbi Misha - 020 8599 0936.

This Passover, our community seder will be themed around stories of human migration, and I never thought we would live to see such another large European event as this.  I am sure we will be doing our part to help alleviate the hardship of others, as our tradition reminds us at this time of year, “In all generations it is the duty of all to consider that they themselves were once refugees (from Egypt)״ (mPesach 10:5).

Thank you again for your support,

Rabbi Jordan
