Jewish Historical Society of England, Essex Branch - upcoming dates and new Facebook group
Following the success of their last meeting (which over 100 people attended), the relaunched local Essex Branch of the Jewish Historical Society of England now has its own Facebook group, which you are welcome to join and participate in. Joining the Facebook group will also give you details of our upcoming events, when announced. To join, click here, which takes you to the group. You should then see a blue “Join Group” button - click on that, agree to the group rules and we will then “approve” you as a member.
They are also delighted to confirm our first two dates and speakers:
- Tues 5 November - our new Chairman Richard Cohen on Sir John (Jack) Cohen and 100 Years of Tesco
- Tues 10 December - Professor Clive Bloom on Meschuggenahs with Guns: Politics, Revolution and Violent Death in the Old Jewish East End. Find out why a secret revolutionary group caused mayhem in East London between 1910 and 1911. Why did a Jewish 'fence' die on Clapham Common in strange ritual circumstances? What was the connection between Lenin and a Jewish gang and what was the peculiar thread which lead from a rubber factory in Tottenham to Winston Churchill? Join us for a fascinating and macabre journey into the heart of the old Jewish East End.
These meetings will all take place at 8pm at Clore Tikva School. Cost: £5, including refreshments. No charge for JHSE members.
