Member News

Over the last few years SWESRS has faced a choice. We could have gone into managed decline, where we gradually buried our community’s members, sold off the building, and handed over our members to other synagogues. If we had done this, we would have provided excellent pastoral care in a loving community, but eventually our doors would have closed.  Instead, we chose life and renewal. We decided to believe in ourselves and our future, entering a period of growth. We decided to throw ourselves into making this the thriving, exciting community we know it can be.

The success of SWESRS depends on you, our members, and our wonderful enthusiastic group of volunteers, and we have an excellent band of members working towards building the future for SWESRS.

At this year’s AGM we are launching our strategic plan for 2021-24.  We are looking for people to help us ensure the success of this plan.  In particular, we are starting a new Growth and Welcome Group, led by Student Rabbi Lev, and we would very much like you to be part of that.

There are many other key areas too in which you could get involved.  We are looking for people to help in the vital role of security, keeping ourselves and others safe. We need people to join our finance committee; members who can help with marketing, publicity and social media; people who are interested in inclusion and diversity; those interested in adult learning; members who are keen on technology and technological innovation; or social action; or planning for activities for the chagim (holidays and festivals).

Could one of these people be you?  Are you able to give some time to your community, no matter how small (or big!)?  It might be making an occasional phone call to keep our members in touch with each other, for example, or baking a cake, or volunteering for security a few times a year.  Or it might be becoming involved in one of the areas above; or serving on one of our key groups, committees and Council.  However much time you are able to give, SWESRS needs you.

If you think you could help grow SWESRS for the future, or you would like to learn more about Volunteering@SWESRS, please contact Sue Jackson on for a chat.
